Combat-Free Open World YARETA Opens Free Steam Playtest
Three-person indie studio Mariana Games has opened a free Steam Playtest for YARETA, a combat-free open-world puzzle adventure. Anyone can join instantly from the Steam page for roughly two hours of content — no keys, no sign-up forms.

In YARETA, players become an investigator from the World Library, using a sky-reaching rope to soar across an ancient landscape. There is no combat: instead, players can reach out and touch anything in the world — creatures, plants, ruins — and listen to what it has to say, piecing together the land’s hidden past.
The Playtest build adds the Hexagonal Great Tree Ruins, a new dungeon beneath a colossal ancient tree where players solve the puzzles of a lost civilization and encounter a giant deity trapped deep underground. The overworld has also been expanded with many more touchable ruins and creatures around Mirror Lake, hidden secrets for unhurried explorers, and a new backpack equipment system — attach items to your backpack to trigger unexpected effects. The build also brings new animations and VFX, performance optimization, Steam Deck support, and controller rumble.
YARETA was selected from over 1,000 entries for Tokyo Game Show 2026’s “Selected Indie 80” and will exhibit at Makuhari Messe, September 17–21. It has previously won four prizes, including Best 3D Art, at the Bahamut ACG Creation Awards — Taiwan’s largest creative competition for independent works — and was nominated for Best Audio at the Taipei Game Show Indie Game Award.
