Solasta: Crown of the Magister

Solasta: Crown of the Magister is a turn-based RPG in early access, available on Steam for 20% off until December 22nd. The team behind the game, Tactical Adventures, are longtime fans of traditional tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons. It’s their goal to bring that traditional RPG feel to a PC in the smoothest way possible. Dice rolls and character creation are a huge part of the game, just like old pen-and-paper games. Despite the game being single player, you create an entire team of heroes.  Even though you play by yourself and the game is still being fleshed out, its community is already growing.

Bird's eye view of combat
Solasta features turn-based combat where damage and hit chance are based on dice rolls

Saving Solasta

Playing as a team of four, the player must embark on a journey to save the would of Solasta. The player will traverse through varied areas, from ruins and forts to deserts and forests. The game features a dynamic environment where much of the game can be interacted with. For example, bridges or walls can collapse and crush both your team and your enemies. Solasta: Crown of the Magister features a few other special mechanics that are callbacks to certain tabletop games. The management of light sources is an important mechanic. If you emanate a lot of light, you’ll become a target for enemies. But if there’s not enough light, you won’t be able to see your enemies. And just like D&D, every attack in the game has a dice roll behind it.

A ruin, crumbling
With dynamic environments, enemies can get wiped out if they’re standing in the wrong place. But the same can be said for your team.

A Perilous Journey

The player will find enemies in many forms. There will be an assortment of monsters in their way, including giant spiders, orcs, and the undead. Without being tied to a board on a table, the game is also in three dimensions. This gives players the ability to climb, crawl, fall, or fly around the game. Like any good mythical RPG, there are many options when it comes to creating your characters. You can customize their race, class, background, looks, and stats. Whether you want to be a sneaky archer, a loud warrior, or a behind-the-lines healer, Solasta gives you the chance to pursue whatever you like. If you’re a fan of traditional RPGs like D&D, keep following this game as development continues.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 logo

This long-awaited game out of CD Projekt Red finally arrived on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on December 10th. First announced all the way back in 2012 and delayed from the previously announced release date in November, this has been among the most highly anticipated video game releases of all time. The game sold over 8 million copies through digital pre-orders alone. This game features a wide array of game mechanics that inspired an incredible amount of hype for the game. All in the first person, Cyberpunk features drivable cars, gunplay, melee combat, stealth elements, expansive skill progression, choice over the story’s direction, character customization, and the list goes on. With so much to potentially accomplish, some of these mechanics might be hit or miss for certain gamers with high standards. But what most can agree with is that the rich and unique story is among the highest quality that you can find in a game.

Night City

Taking place in an alternate future, the setting for Cyberpunk 2077 is beautifully crafted. The graphics are among the highest quality that you can find on these systems today. You’ll need a high-end PC if you want to see the real potential of this game. You play as a named character named V, but the player has a great deal of control over who V really is. The player controls everything from what they look like to where they came from. The game starts with three paths that will influence the direction that your character takes in the story throughout the game. With Keanu Reeves casted as one of the main characters, the game’s focus is largely geared towards its storytelling. There are multiple endings that will be shown based on your decisions throughout the game. There are also various side quests that will directly influence your character and sometimes the city as a whole. Cd Projekt Red really wanted the player to feel like they control V’s destiny.

Wake up Samurai

Cyberpunk 2077 has so many gameplay features that it’s hard to compare it to other games. It wouldn’t be fair to expect driving to be at the quality of a racing game or for gunplay to be at the quality of an FPS game. Cyberpunk is really about giving the player the opportunity to choose how they want their character to go about completing the game’s quests. There are currently a wide range of bugs and issues that players have been running into, but these are very likely to be patched out in the near future. It’s possible that some of the specific mechanics might also be adjusted to improve the game even more. CD Projekt Red worked on Witcher 3 after its release and made very real improvements to the game. You can nearly guarantee that they will do the same for Cyberpunk.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Yakuza: Like a Dragon logoYakuza: Like a Dragon has just been released for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and PS4. It’s coming to PS5 on March 2, 2021. This is the newest entry into SEGA’s Yakuza series and it’s made a great deal of changes in story-telling and gameplay that make this game unique and sets itself apart from the older games in the series. The player takes control of a brand new character, in a brand new Japanese city, and the gameplay during combat is totally different, too.

Japanese Crime Syndicate

Just like its predecessors, Yakuza: Like a Dragon puts the player in the shoes of man who must fight against a deadly and dangerous Yakuza clan. You primarily play as Ichiban Kasuga, but this new entry into the series has a huge difference from every other game. You actually play as a team of four players. Instead of being a beat-em-up style fighting game during combat, the combat is actually turn based. There are still a wide variety of traditional and wacky enemies that might require some skillful strategy to get through the game, and you’ll need to take advantage of the strengths of all your characters. Like the past Yakuza games, this game also has many minigames throughout the city. Traveling through the city of Yokohama, you can participate in everything from kart racing to batting cages to arcade game to karaoke.

They take karaoke very seriously in Yakuza.

A Fresh Take on Yakuza

Yakuza: Like a Dragon has also opted to make various other changes to the game. Every Yakuza game from 2006 until now has been exclusively voice acted in Japanese. You now have the option for the game to be played out with English voice actors. Voice acting legend, George Takei, plays Masumi Arakawa. He is Kasuga’s patriarch and father-figure from his yakuza past. The Yakuza series has always focused on telling a long story while providing plenty of side-quests, minigames, and memorable boss battles. Despite the vast differences in the way that Yakuza: Like a Dragon plays and tells its story, it still has the same core focus that past releases have had. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a brand new player, this game could provide many hours of entertainment. If you’re a fan of Japanese storytelling or turn-based games, give this game a try.

A Yakuza battle
Changing to a turn-based combat system will give the battles a very different feel.

Destiny 2 My First Week

Destiny 2 My first Week

Let the Grind Begin …again

Imagine the set up, I’m sitting on the sofa with a can of Rockstar Energy (Destiny 2 Branded) in one hand and my PlayStation controller on my lap it’s 23:58 on September 5th 2017

My world is about to be changed forever as in just a few short minutes Destiny 2’s

pre-installed padlock will finally be opened and I’ll be rejoicing in a moment that’s been on my mind for the last year!

23:59 my inbox start’s getting filled with comments from my fellow clan members (Random Fruits) requesting not to post any spoilers.

00:00 the lock is off and now the race to sign in and not spend the remainder of the night staring at a screen informing me that I’m in a queue is on, I mash away on the X button attempting to skip the bungie logo and get to the log in screen …I’m treated to a selection of images and dates of key Destiny 1 moments that I had shared with my fellow clan members.

Character Selection

You have three types to pick from: Titan, Warlock and Hunter all very different in ability and all have their own Armour sets to collect.

I’ll start with the Titan class as it’s the main one I’ve used for the past three years on the original game.

The Titans are, in short, Destiny’s answer to a Tank class with awesome shoulder charge and Flaming Hammer throws (Super move).

The Warlocks are basically Wizards of the Destiny world with an Electric Shock type super much like the Emperor from Star Wars.

The Hunter class has the ability to turn invisible and shoot off purple arrows tethering the enemy’s leaving them open to attack.

It’s the the diversity of these three classes that make for an awesome Fireteam.

Level cap 20

Story

Now I don’t want to be spoiling any story for anyone and yes this game does have a story!

After the disappointment of the original it’s clear Bungie listen to criticisms.

The Story starts with your Guardian (Destiny’s Answer to Halo’s Spartan) returning to the Tower just as it is under attack from an Alien Race known as the Cabal (Sort of Space Rhinos/Turtles) led by Ghaul or Garry as Destiny 2’s marketing campaign would have you call him.

The reason for the attack is to take the Traveler’s  light and steal it for himself.

Like I said I don’t want to give  much away on the plot focus more on what Destiny 2 is. At its heart it’s an Action first person Shooter with elements of RPG progression, its main emphasis being on Loot and boy it’s got a lot.

All that lovely Loot!

You kill enemy’s to drop little green/blue/purple/gold Pentagonal Dodecahedrons (engrams) containing anything from materials used to upgrade items  Weapons and Armour, the colour of the engram determines it’s value gold being best.

The game has multiplayer modes for both PvP and PvE with the latter being probably the best part of the game, join up with a fire team of two other Guardians and take down massive waves of enemy’s, it reminds me so much of Split-Screen fun on Halo: combat evolved, yet another gem made by Bungie for the original Xbox.

You can repeat Story Missions with friends or taking on the challenge of the weekly Strike playlist.

Strikes are harder missions intended for three players made easy with in game matchmaking

As it’s an online game it’s loaded with weekly themed events, One such event is the Nightfall, a kind of hard version of a strike that give high level gear

The main aim of doing all this is to achieve a high enough Light level to take part in the Weekly Raid!

The Raid

Now this is what Destiny 2 is all about, it’s a Six man fire team racing through increasingly challenging set peaces with the goal of getting Raid gear!

Destiny 2 has a lot going for it but it’s not without a few annoyances one such annoyance is the Eververse trading co. a sort of Pay for extras store built within the game and yes I know you can technically unlock these rewards as you level up but it’s still a pain to get the shader you want without grinding all weekend.

There is simply far too much for me to cover in this article such as Exotics, the many different species of enemy and future DLC!

All in all I love the game and it’s definitely going to take over my life all over again much like the original

Feel free to Join my clan  Random Fruits

Destiny 2 is available now on Xbox one Playstation 4 and PC (October 24th)

Highly Anticipated MMO Games

There’s a search for the most highly anticipated upcoming massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) that continues as the best MMORPG 2017 list is launched.

TORRANCE, CA, USA, Earlier this year /EINPresswire.com/ — Bestmmorpg2017.net, a game website which was created for the purpose of reviewing online games, unveils the list of the most popular and highly anticipated massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs) that will be released in the year 2017.

The website has published the Best MMORPG 2017 list with links and mini-reviews of each title. The games are grouped into several categories such as free to play, browser-based, buy to play or no subscription, pay to play (subscription), and upcoming MMORPGs 2017.

With the seemingly endless number of available online games, searching for the best game can be a problem for many players. Best MMORPG 2017, however, provide a means of solving this problem by publishing the list of highly recommended MMORPG games helps players easily find the most popular titles.

“I think that next year will undoubtedly be a very interesting year for MMO games. There are quite a few innovative indie games that will be launching and I look forward to playing them all,” said Olivia Morin, editor of Bestmmorpg2017.net. “Currently, we have a total of eleven games that we recommend but please bear in mind that the wbesite is in its pre-launch stage. We will be adding more and changing the list constantly as we strive to keep it updated and relevant.”

The Best MMORPG 2017 list can be found at http://bestmmorpg2017.net

Morin added that apart from graphics and gameplay, players also tend to favor the MMORPGs that have fast-paced action combat, large-scale open-world PvP (player vs player) and PvE (player vs environment) battles, crafting, dynamic environments, epic story quests, and sandbox features.

“In terms of playbility, all of the featured MMORPGs are different and unique. There’s everything from PvP-focused indie games to big-budget AAA releases. Just the same old MMO gameplay features won’t hack it these days because of increased competition from other online games. Each of these games appeal to a specific type of player such as the ones are nostagic for old school MMORPGs or those who want a sandbox game with a player-controlled economy,” said Morin.
