The Highs and Lows of E3, part 2: The Highs

Mario and Rabbid

One of the only highlights from the fist two days, people liked this game! From the responses, the first game was well-received, and people are looking forward to new characters/fusions, and the good-looking graphics quality.

New Halo Game

FPS-style gamers are Hype for the announcement of a new Halo game!!!

The Entire Nintendo Presentation

BOTW 2 Footage:

People went Hog-wild over the character designs and potential new abilities seen in a small preview. Whispers on the wind want to connect similar visuals to an earlier Zelda game, Skyward sword, as we’ve seen clips of Link dropping himself through the air.

Metroid Dread:

Initially a canceled DS game, it has revived as an upcoming game for the Switch!

The Highs and Lows of E3, part 1: the lows

Lows

Less-than impressive start by Ubisoft

Ubisoft spending its debut day re-hashing old games and discussing movies left an ashy taste on E3 viewers coming to this year’s video game trade event.

The companies actions left viewers feeling even more sour as many felt some of their lackluster interviews were trying to cover for Workplace Harassment scandals that saw news coverage in 2020.

Good for the Company, bad for the gamers

Xbox released tons of exclusives for its new device. While that is an excellent move company-wise (it lets the device compete with others on the market that also have exclusive games) it leaves most gamers behind. The latest Xbox goes for around $500, which is a significant chunk of change, and games for it go up to $80 as well, leaving those who love games but can’t shell out a minimum of almost $600 for a new console and a single game out of the loop.

Doing this also limits how many people can buy or even play the game, regardless of the people who are interested in doing so.

Morally and Ethically Dubious NFT Game aimed at kids

With Cryptocurrency on the rise, it’s no surprise that the latest kind (NFTs) are now being incorporated into videogames. For E3, Mythical Games launched an MMO dedicated to the creation and selling of NFTs, with minigames as a side.

The problem lies in both the game being aimed at children, and in the environmental impact of maintaining and mining any kind of bitcoin.

Most kids might not understand that the game requires actual money, or even the idea that they’re essentially selling artwork. Bitcoin is notorious for using up extreme amounts of electricity.

E3 2018 Microsoft

Microsoft at E3 2018

E3 2018

Chris Jones Gaming is so looking forward to E3 this year! I am not actually going to Los Angeles, but I very much love the atmosphere created around an event like E3. I will very likely be mirroring coverage from another source. Admittedly, I favor Playstation over XBox One – but have a look at this regarding Microsoft at E3 2018.

In case you missed it – Here is a Microsoft Press Release from March 2018.

Since Xbox made its first appearance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2000, Xbox has had a major presence at the show, delivering exclusive and powerful ways to let fans in on what we’re up to, and 2018 will be no different.  In fact, it will be our biggest showing ever.

With the evolution of E3, now including fans and extended show hours, we saw an opportunity to create an entirely new show experience reaching E3 attendees and those that are following the show from afar.  With that, in collaboration with the Entertainment Software Association, the organizers of E3, we’re excited to announce that Xbox will be taking over the Microsoft Theater, a perfectly situated space located in the heart of L.A. Live. That is across the street from the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC).

The Microsoft Theater

The Microsoft Theater will be home to official E3 events like the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing on June 10, 2018 at 1PM PT, various Xbox FanFest activities, hands-on gameplay and demos for all E3 attendees and more.  Not only does the Microsoft Theater allow us to centralize our Xbox presence at E3, but it’s size enables us to include even more fans and partners in the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing than ever before.

In addition to the Microsoft Theater, we will continue to have a meaningful presence at the LACC with a new booth completely dedicated to Mixer, where you can play, stream and interact with games and catch the latest E3 news live throughout the entire week.

Expanding our presence, multiple venues, in addition to taking over the Microsoft Theater – give us the opportunity to bring together a variety of Xbox experiences into one primary location. Most importantly, we will let fans in on what we’re up to in 2018 and beyond in a fresh new way.

So mark your calendar for Microsoft at E3 2018; the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing for June 10, 2018 at 1PM PT to kick off the week of E3 with us.  We’re excited and will have plenty more to share on our E3 2018 plans soon.
